Precision Fabrication, Built In-House
This project demonstrates Kee Engineering’s ability to deliver complete fabrication and on-site installation works within a live industrial environment. The scope extended beyond cabinet manufacture alone, incorporating new pipework runs, break-ins, welding, and final integration with existing fuel infrastructure.
By controlling both workshop fabrication and site installation, we ensured accuracy, efficiency, and a smooth transition from manufacture to commissioning.
Project Overview
Works completed included:
- Fabrication of 1x 3 arm loading cabinet
- Fabrication of 1x 2 arm loading cabinet
- Installation of new pipework connecting to existing tanks and systems
- All break-ins are completed in advance for future installations
The loading cabinets were manufactured in our warehouse and transported to the site in Cumbria, where our team carried out complete installation works, including pipe alignment, welding, and final fitment.
Pipework and Installation Works
On-site, Kee Engineering installed new pipework runs between the loading cabinets and existing storage tanks. This involved:
- Removal and modification of existing sections
- Accurate pipe routing to suit site constraints
- On-site welding to integrate new and existing pipework
- Secure mounting and support to maintain long-term integrity
All works were completed with careful consideration of the live environment, ensuring safety, compliance, and minimal disruption to surrounding operations.
Materials and Engineering Standards
Industrial-grade steel pipework and flanged components were used throughout, selected to suit fuel handling applications and external conditions. Workshop fabrication allowed for consistent weld quality, while on-site welding ensured precise integration with legacy systems.
Protective coatings were applied to new pipework and cabinets to provide durability and a uniform finish across the installation.
Challenges and Practical Solutions
Working within an operational fuel site required careful planning and sequencing. Completing the break-ins and fabrication off-site reduced time spent working around existing infrastructure. It allowed installation works to progress efficiently once on site.
Pipe routes were planned to work around existing services, tanks, and supports, ensuring a clean installation without unnecessary alterations to surrounding assets.
Final Outcome
The completed works delivered fully installed loading cabinets with new pipework integrated into the existing system, ready for future loading arm installations in the new year. The client now has:
- Purpose-built loading cabinets installed to specification
- New pipework installed and tied into existing infrastructure
- A site prepared for future upgrades with minimal additional work required
